Ricki The Dude's Totally Epic Weekly World Wide Web Update!
Ricki The Dude's Totally Epic Weekly World Wide Web Update!
Just another Day at the office.
I knew today I was going out with a crew of kids (
David Loy,
Ethan Loy,
Figgy,
Eric Fletcher,
Cody Davis, and
Shaun Stulz),
so I thought to
myself "why not document an average day of a filmer?" And to be honest
with you I wouldn't even say it was that average, because we didn't
have to deal with cops or security, and I was home before dinner.
Sorry, no night mission. Anyway, for everyone out there that ever
wondered what it's like to be a filmer, here's a brief description
of it.
Enjoy
Dude (Roger Klotz)
This is about the average time us filmers start our day. Which gives
me time in the morning to do a little editing before we head out.
Thanks to our great President George W. Bush this is how much I spend
every 3 days on gas. What a Deadbeat!
So I make it down to Irvine and pick up David Loy, not to be confused
with Jeff Spicoli.
And, of course, his sidekick and best friend, the one and only Justin
"Figgy" Figueroa.
While I had one crew in my car, John "Best Roomie Ever" Bradford and
photographer for Skateboarder Magazine had Cody Davis, Eric Fletcher,
and Ethan Loy (David's little brother) in his car.
First things first: We had to put fuel in these little machines.
After we ate and started our mission, David breaks out his laptop to
check his MySpace page. Take in mind we've been gone for 30 minutes,
and we were on the I-405. I had no idea there was a device that you
could plug into your laptop and get wireless anywhere, anytime.
Brilliant!
1st stop: Oceanside, California...
...But first, Cody had to drop bombs in McDonalds.
Once we got to the first spot, Figgy started puttin it down...
...Until his truck broke. I swear, everytime I go out with Figgy
something breaks. Kingpin, shoes, board,t ruck, shin, tooth... you name it.
The rad thing about him is that he doesn't care. He skated his trucks like
this all day.
After smashing his back on the pavement a dozen times and riding a broken
truck he still put the hammer down and got his line.
It's pretty funny that today Bradford and I were out with 6 kids.
Anybody ever seen the TV show "My Two Dads"? Anyway, we finished up
here and Figgy had another spot he wanted to hit up.
18 stair beast, but who's counting stairs? Cody and Ethan.
The worst thing about this spot is you have to have wood at the
bottom and you shoot straight into grass. Ethan gives a helping
hand.
While Figgy sets up a new board with broken trucks, Bradford lurks.
Time to get busy.

After Figgy and David got their hammers (which you wont see here
because they're saving all their bangers for the Birdhouse video
dropping this fall), it was time to peace out.
I asked Cody how old he was and he said 13, so my response was "I'm old
enough to be your dad." I bet people on the street probably think I
am.
Honestly, I don't think Figgy's a deadbeat, G.W.B. on the other hand is the
President of Deadbeats.
Eating again.
Baskin Robins for the kids.
Loy decided to take the rest of his aggression out on Cody.
Then a Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream fight began.
Time for me to hit the road back up to the LBC.
9 hour day, just another day of filming. Actually this was a short day.
It's always rad to come home and find a package that UPS (aka
Chocolate Santa) has dropped off. Dylan Radloff at Oakley sent me a
pair of Limited Edition Supreme Oakley Frogskins. Just wait and see
how many skaters will be rockin' these things.
Then it was off to the girlfriend's house, only to find a delicious, home-cooked
meal. Thanks Vicky! Man, today was truly a good day.
