"Mack Now, Not Later" Handrails beware: When Paul Machnau is near, you WILL get destroyed! With his relentless attack on everything in his path, Paul wastes no time to Mack Now, Not Later! Featuring a mini-part of the Darkstar crew including Mike Hastie, PLG and Chet Thomas, this section will leave you salivating! "Surround Sound" Kick off the shoes and relax the socks as the Stereo Sound Agency brings you Surround Sound, a montage of the Stereo Sound Agents doing what they do best: skating and creating. The excitement continues as the ongoing Versus contest makes its way into the Final Round, with the top two combatants battling for the $25,000 treasure! Start the year off right with 411 Volume 14, Issue 1! 411 14-1 delivers another exciting addition to the 411 library with guest artist Todd Francis at the helm. Todd has been the lead artist for Element since 1999 and lends 411 his creativity for this issue. Starting off with another heart-pounding Openers segment, Chima Ferguson's last trick is sure to leave your mouth hanging. Though the days of winter are short, step into the sun with a bright and shiny segment of Chaos featuring skaters from DVS, Bueno and Zoo York. Then "Pack Your Duffel Bags" as we head up to Northern California to skate with Corey Duffel and watch Jaws tear up our presidential cabinet. Meanwhile, down south in San Diego, Marius Syvanen and Tyler Bledsoe show you the future of skateboarding as these young bucks go through their "Growing Pains" to give you a tasty skate part. Remember Jack Curtin from 411 Issue 59? Well "Jack's Back" as we head out to Barcelona for the summer to check in on him and drink some good Cafe con Leche. And the traveling doesn't stop there. What's "Better Than Canadian Bacon?" Why, Billabong in Canada of course! Chad Bartie, Quim Cardona, Jereme Rogers and the rest of the team head up to our neighbors in the north to skate around and tear up the streets. Then, "The Teflon Don," a.k.a. Donny Barley, enlightens you on the true meaning of skateboarding then knocks you out with an amazing full part, featuring his friends on the Zoo York squad. If you've been craving more Donny since Toy Machine's "Welcome To Hell," then you don't want to miss this!
411 also brings you a World Industries Montage featuring Pat Duffy, Mike Peterson and Kurtis Colamonico, as well as the rest of the team in a preview for their upcoming video, "Camouflaged Suits." The annual Make-A-Wish Benefit held down in Texas is also covered with Terell Robinson, Jereme Rogers and Greg Lutzka blowing everyone's minds. In addition, the ongoing Versus Contest rings the bell with Round 3 as the remaining contestants get down and dirty with hopes of making it to the final round for their chance at $25,000. Your vote decides the fate of these gladiators.
In addition to the DVD, the 411 'zine gets better every issue with beautiful photos of all the riders and full interviews with Corey Duffel, Jack Curtin, and Donny Barley. You'll also get news about upcoming contests and videos as well as new products from Bueno and DVS. 2005 marks the beginning of a new life for 411 Skateboarding with the launch of the completely redesigned 411 Video Magazine. Taking cues from the history of 411VM, the 411VM viewers, skateboarders, skateboard retailers, and skateboarding industry members, the new product marks an exciting change. Most notably, the new 411VM packaging has undergone a dramatic physical change. No longer packaged as a traditional video, 411VM has become a multi-media product including a DVD, Free Music Sampler CD, 32-page Zine, and Poster! With the modernized format, each 411VM release will feature a "guest creative director" giving the print packaging and DVD motion graphics an individual look and feel. Prominent artist Dave Kinsey (blkmrkt.com, kinseyvisual.com) produced the visual identity of the first new 411VM, releasing in March 15th, 2005. The new 411VM has also seen a significant increase in production quality. New article concepts will be introduced to give viewers more of what they have requested – quality over quantity, amazing skateboarding from the best skateboarders in the world, popular and new music, and a product guide showcasing industry leading brands. Serving as an encyclopedia of skateboarding instructional videos for the next generation of skateboarders,
First Step provides the first time skater with needed direction and guidance from their first push in
order to ensure a long and fun-filled skateboarding experience.
First Step is producing the ultimate trick tip video series with something to offer every
skateboarder from the newest beginner to the most advanced pro.
Dave Metty has been recruited to spearhead the First Step series as Project Manager and Host.
Dave is a skateboarder for life; he’s served as the YMCA Skate Camp Director for over a decade,
developed curriculum to coach everyone from novice to expert skateboarders,
worked as both filmer and producer for several skateboard video projects,
been a team manager and has judged X Games, Gravity Games and Tampa Pro contests.
To make First Step a reality, Dave has teamed up with his close friend and Thrasher Magazine 1993
Skater of the Year, Salman Agah. Salman, who has became a legend among skateboarders for pioneering
switchstance skating, will fill the role of Director and Instructional Host, teaching viewers technique and execution.
As a revolutionary, skating for 25 years with 12 years of professional experience as well as
a passion for giving direction to young skaters, Salman is the perfect fit for the First Step series.
Together, Dave and Salman take time to gradually ease skateboarders along the learning curve.
While Dave recalls history and meaning involved with a trick, Salman explains and illustrates
