The Claravall Butters -Concrete VIBE

Concrete VIBE is a pool contest held at HIADVENTURE pousada in Florianopolis Brazil and the good guys at VIBE got me a ticket to check it out. It was like "Jim's Ramp Jam" but on the beach, people were dropping off roofs into the pool and Rodolfo Ramos jumped out to tailslide on a 6 foot wall. Nuts.

The Claravall Butters - Kicked Out of Hong Kong with Soichiro Nakajima

So I'm in Hong Kong and I hear about an amazing new spot. I take the fellas there and it's an amazing plaza; all marble, ledges, stairs, and hubbas. Unfortunately it's also skatestopped. From there we go to this other plaza that's really good but when we arrive we're get kicked out in a matter of minutes. Last stop is Morrison Hill, a little skatepark that's really fun to skate. Everyone was so amped to finally skate that we filmed this stuff in a matter of minutes. Good thing we're going to China Tomorrow.

The Butters is now on Mondays so to celebrate I have a special treat for you, a full Rodrigo TX part. This was filmed one summer in Europe (though there are two Lockwood tricks snuck in there) when Rodrigo went through 30 boards. Most of these tricks were filmed in less than 10 tries, the hardest part was getting Rodrigo up in the morning. And those people at the start of the part? That's the kind of thing you'll see when you go deep into Barcelona's neighborhood's...

Appleyard stayed on my floor a few years ago while he was filming for "Sorry". We went out w/ Joe Brook everyday and had a really good time, Mark broke it off at every spot and we celebrated every night by eating at good restaurants. Basically, Appleyard got the last two tricks in his part while Joe and I got fat.

D.I.T.C. - Danny Wainwright 2001

I spent three weeks in 2001 in Barcelona with the Firm team and I invited Javier Sarmiento and Danny Wainwright along too. Danny is one of the best skaters I've ever seen. He looks comfortable on his board no matter what he' skating. This was a rad trip, for most of the crew it was their first time cruising the streets of Barcelona and seeing all these amazing spots.

D.I.T.C. - Hernandez Ledges revisited with Jeron, Charles Chavez, & Alex Klien

If L.A. and S.F. were the skateboarding Mecca in the late 80's early 90's and Barcelona was in 2000 w/ China taking over today, what's the state of street skating in L.A. today? Jason Hernandez built these ledges in 04/05 and they were one of the few bust-free all days spots when i was there at that time (even though we almost got our car jacked there once). Will street skating in America as we know it exist in 5 years? Jeron, Alex Klien, and Charles Chavez skating outside the reservation.

L-R-G Go Skateboarding Day 2007 Video!

I'm currently on a L-R-G trip to Canada so I got to spend Go Skateboarding Day in Vancouver. Honestly every day is 'Go Skateboarding Day' for me but this is the first official event I've witnessed. We started out at the Vancouver Skate Plaza then ran amok in downtown Vancouver. It was an awesome day and I really wish I had a skate plaza when i was a little kid. The Claravall Butters - Tommy Wisdom At Hubba Hideout

Recently, the city of SF tore up the landing at Hubba Hideout and put in grass. Luckily, when it was first liberated in October, scores of skateboarding's best went there and threw down. Crazy shit like Switch Front Blunt, Backside 180 Kickflip Nosegrind, and Nollie Heel Krooks went down in the first few weeks. Between running from the cops and waiting for photographers who came too late, Tommy Wisdom Switch Heel Back 50's Hubba while warming up for what I think is the best trick ever done there. What did he do? You're going to have to wait for the next issue of 411 to find out...

I've known Alex Klein since he was a little dude growing up in S.F. He's a great skater that has been seriously bitten by the travel bug and he knows the secrets to being a good travel companion: know when to keep your mouth shut, eat where the locals take you, and keep a positive attitude. The Claravall Butters - Evan Collisson

Evan Collisson moved with his mom from Wisconsin to Dubai a few years ago. He really didn't know what to expect but it turned out to be a great place for skateboarding. Kenny Reed met Evan on a recent trip to Dubai and invited him to join us while we were in China, another great place for skateboarding.

Diggin' In The Crates - Venture In Japan Part 1: Russ Milligan

In the spring of 2004 Venture trucks asked me to go on a trip to Japan. The crew was Alex Klein, Russ Milligan, James Beavis, Danny Funzalida, Japanese rider Soichiro Nakajima, Joe Brook from Slap and Ears, the Venture TM at the time. The trip was super fun and we got tons of footage that never made it into 411. Here's Russ Milligan killing it during his first time in Japan.

While the average person in Barcelona doesn't always appreciate skateboarding, today i saw a little dude who was so blown away by it that i had to let him try out my board. It took him a few tries and some help from a friend but on his first day out he got a trick on film and a photo.

Diggin' In The Crates - Weiger Van Wageningen

I first saw this little red headed kid with dope style at a skatepark in Holland the summer of '98. He had Heelflips on lock and a Menace hat cocked to the side. Well, Wieger Van Wageningen is definitely all grown up and he's about to drop a banging part in the Nike movie. Here's a couple of clips of Weiger, circa 2003.

Jo Lorenz is one of the pros on the European Element team. I remember seeing him at all the European contests skating with his brother who is really good, too. Jo would always do really good in the contests but what I remember most is that he and his brother always looked like they were having fun skating together. The Claravall Butters - Terell Robinson In Hong Kong

When I was in Hong Kong with Terell Robinson, 852 skateshop and HKskateboarding.com held a skate jam. It was a super cool day with all the local rippers like Johnny H.K. and Chun, plus there was a game of S-K-A-T-E. Terell killed it at the park (even though he thought the 'transmissions' were wierd on the ramps), I never knew he was nice like that on tranny. And, to top it off, that night we had Hot Pot, the best Chinese food ever.

After seeing Lost & Found, I knew I wanted to work on something with Blueprint Skateboards in 411. This winter, almost the whole squad along with Dan Magee, the diminutive genius behind the brand, came out to China for their first crack at some of the best spots ever. I hooked up with the Cera Caliente crew while driving up the East Coast with Rodent. I used to film a lot in New Jersey but I hadn't been there in a minute. Well, other than the fact that Chris' pants are definitely tighter than when I first started seeing him around and that now he can do pretty much anything he wants on a skateboard, not too much has changed; we met up in the parking lot behind a sports bar, went to a kicker behind a Chinese restaurant, and finished up at a WaWa.
